About Lonny

Lonny Doherty is a true Renaissance Man. A triple threat, he is an accomplished Painter, Interior Designer and Musician. He has been working as an Interior Designer and Home Renovator since graduating from the Fanshawe College Interior Design Program in 1994.  Lonny also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Western Ontario.

Interior Designer

Lonny's 2008 project was to transform a 1922 semi in mid-town Toronto into a contemporary stunning Loft Alternative. The small space required a complete redesign of flow, sight lines and light lines. Highlights include beautifully restored hard wood floors, the utilization of previously unused space and the creation of unique design features to indicate separate rooms while creating a welcoming open living space. The designer personally renovated this home from top to bottom. It was sold to a real estate agent as her personal residence in February of 2009.

Artist/Painter

An elective Fine Art (Painting) course taken while at University proved inspiring to Lonny Doherty. Lonny is self taught, drawing his inspiration from the landscape of his natural surroundings. Lonny established Descartes Studios in 1996 to produce Fine Art. His work has been commissioned by The Right Honorable Justice James Donnelly, author Alice Munroe and many others.  His piece Warm Cloud Tangle, 2001 was ranked in the top ten of International Artist Magazine competition. He was chosen among entrants from around the World. June/July 2002 issue.

Guitarist for the band, the Ashgrove

From 1995 to 2004 Lonny Doherty was a guitarist for the band the Ashgrove. Hailing from Goderich, Ontario, the Ashgrove has three albums to their credit. The Ashgrove's 1999 release, Photo Album, launched three singles onto playlists at commercial radio stations across Canada. Television programs such as Dawson's Creek, Hack, Party of Five, all used songs from the album. Veterans of the stage, The Ashgrove have shared the stage with Duran Duran, the Headstones, 54-40, the Killjoys, Danko Jones, Rymes with Orange, See Spot Run and international recording artists K's Choice, Vertical Horizon, and the Verve Pipe. The band has been invited to showcase at prestigious events such as NXNE and Canadian Music Week.
